Tourism Australia and Quiksilver Announce ‘Surf, Sun and Social Networking’ Facebook Contest
Calling all Bloggers and Facebook Fans…..
Here’s a Chance to Win a Trip to Australia to be the Official Blogger for the 2012 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast
Tourism Australia and Quiksilver announced today they have launched a Facebook contest, “Surf, Sun and Social Networking in Australia,” that will send one lucky winner to Australia to be the official blogger for the 2012 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast.
Beginning March 14 and ending April 8 contestants will have the opportunity to upload their best adventure photo to either Facebook.com/AustraliaWorkandPlay or Facebook.com/Quiksilver and describe in 100 words or less what they think is the best adventure Down Under. Whether it’s hiking in search of wildlife, on a quest for the perfect break, or discovering a new world underwater, Australia’s got it all.
And for those who aren’t familiar with Aussie adventures, they can get inspired by visiting Australia.com or Quiksilver.com. The winner will be determined by who has the most “likes” at the end of the contest period.
“There’s nothing like an Australian adventure,” said Daryl Hudson, vice president, the Americas for Tourism Australia. “From our iconic beaches, to our world-class cities and of course our native wildlife, the winning blogger will be on the front lines of some amazing experiences.”
The winner will receive a two-week trip to Australia including round-trip international economy airfare from Los Angeles, Dallas, San Francisco, or New York to Australia; one week in Queensland attending and blogging from the 2012 Quiksilver Pro, and vacation and blogging for one week in another Australian state of their choice.
“The Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast is the premier surf event in all of Australia and the kick-off to the world tour every year,” said Eddie Anaya, Marketing Director of Quiksilver. “It’s exciting to partner with Tourism Australia to offer one of our fans a behind the scenes experience where they get to blog and rub elbows with the best surfers in the world at one of Australia’s legendary surf breaks – Snapper Rocks.”
Good luck if you are entering – we have already started work on ours !

It’s one of those things that you think will go one forever – but looks like the sponsor world is having a shake-up.
After 10 years with Rip Curl, Steph Gilmore announced her move to Quiksilver in a deal rumoured to be worth at least $5 million over five years.
While industry sources believe Gilmore’s sponsorship is more than all but three men in world surfing, four-time world champion Gilmore said wanting to “keep things fresh” was the main reason behind her move.
Steph’s move comes only a fortnight after her wrist was broken in a bashing outside her Gold Coast home, Gilmore revealed the five-year deal with Quiksilver, which includes joining 13 female artists, musicians, photographers, writers, philanthropists and fashion designers as a brand ambassador.
Gilmore, who declined to confirm the financial details of the new deal, said that moving to Quiksilver was “not a monetary thing”.
The deal is believed to be worth more than $1 million a year for the 22-year-old, with speculation rife there are also big money incentives for winning major events, including the ASP world title.
Gilmore’s career earnings, according to the ASP website, are $419,050. The surfer last year earned $94,200 as she secured her fourth successive world crown.
In Australia only the likes of dual world surfing champion Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Taj Burrow, Ace Buchan and rising starts Owen Wright and Julian Wilson are believed to be on bigger contracts than Gilmore, a star of the women’s surfing tour and an articulate spokewoman off it.
“I had an absolutely fantastic 10-year relationship with Rip Curl and I can only speak highly of them,” said Steph.
“This is just a personal thing where I kind of wanted to sort of rejuvenate my career halfway through and it was a personal choice. I really wanted something to get me excited.
“Globally they are such a giant brand with so much opportunity in the industry with music, fashion, surfing, skating . . . the whole lot.
“Everything I’m learning about the company is it’s more about the lifestyle, music, art, philanthropy and being creative, being independent, being young and successful and having fun.”
Gilmore, who many believe can go on to match if not exceed the seven world titles won by the great Layne Beachley, is the only surfer among Quiksilver’s female brand ambassadors.
“One of the most important things for any athlete is to stay fresh, inspired, to go out and keep competing and winning and keeping that balance in your life,” said Gilmore, who will creatively contribute to Quiksilver’s new collection.
The announcement of Gilmore’s switch came hours after rising star Wilson revealed he was moving from Quiksilver to Nike. Wilson’s deal is a five-year agreement believed to be worth about $1 million a year.

“We are excited to get the opportunity to be involved with and help support such a prestigious UK surfing event as the Quiksilver British Championships. We are looking forward to working with Quiksilver and the BSA in highlighting the UK talent and to continue to assist and develop the UK surfing scene to be one of the strong forces in Europe.”
This year, Quiksilver’s presence down on Fistral Beach will be joined by Roxy, Gibson, DC, and Monster Energy Drinks.
DC & Monster Energy will be keeping the crowds entertained between heats with demos on the Monster Energy skate ramp. Demo-ing for the weekend will be DC, Monster Energy, and Quiksilver Pro Skaters including Pete King, Sam Bosworth, Dan Mc Dermott, Sam Pulley, and John Bell.
After the success of Quiksessions during Quiksilver’s surf contest last year, Gibson Guitar & Quiksilver are searching again for local bands to play live at the Gibson Tour Bus & Quiksessions Stage during the Quiksilver British Surf Championships at Fistral Beach.
All local bands and solo artists can win the chance to play live on Fistral Beach on both Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th August. We’re looking for up to 6 bands and the best performance over the weekend will win £1000 of Quiksilver product. Local Bands should call 0207 436 6800 to register (selected bands will be contacted 5 days before the event).

The surf brand Quiksilver is dipping into the Junior pool with a new clothing line.
Starting next Spring, Quiksilver will launch more than 100 pieces intended to complement the surf styles from the company’s existing junior girls label, Roxy, and serve styles to a more contemporary look sold under its label.
It appears that Quiksilver isn’t concerned that the line might cannibalize sales of Roxy and its young contemporary business. Although Roxy targets a 17-year-old customer, the junior collection aims to reach a 19-year-old, and the young contemporary line pursues women age 25 who have outgrown Roxy and other junior brands.
Prices are set similarly to Roxy, with the junior line offers a variety of “modern coastal classics.” Whimsical prints in subdued colors. Psychedelic screen prints of doves in brilliant hues, bi-color geometric pattern reminiscent of Moroccan landscapes and a collage of pastel-colored flowers.
There are 108 items in the line, and the majority of it is sportswear comprised of denim, shorts, dresses, wovens, fleece, and some knits.
With the ever growing opportunity in the junior market we think this is a wise move, offering young, fun, California styles for the average teenager.
Local standout David Rutherford (Puerto Escondido, Mexico), 25, charged to victory at his home break today to clinch an emphatic win at the ASP 4-Star Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido.
His win topped international standouts Kevin Sullivan (Lahaina, HA), 23, Casey Brown (Kona, HI), 22, and Ricardo dos Santos (BRA), 20, in excellent four-to-six foot high-performance barrels. The Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido’s unique location on the Mexican Pipeline attracted a big list of up-and-coming competitors, an assemblage of local talent and several of the world’s most renowned big-wave surfers.
Rutherford, who was a Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido wildcard entry, went on an absolute tear during the final day of competition, threading a perfect 10-point ride on an amazing backside barrel in his semifinal heat before amassing the highest heat total of the entire event in the final, a near-flawless 18.45 out of 20 to secure the victory.
The Mexican Pipeline charger was thrilled to clinch the major ASP victory in front of his home crowd to bring this year’s Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido title to Mexico while representing the local surfers.
We saw this story over at Freshness Mag - so we hope they won’t mind us piggy backing on some of their exclusive clothing news.
The Standard hotel (which really is one hell of a trendy place to stay) has teamed up with Quiksilver to install a collaborative vending machine by the hotel’s pools to help out the fellas who left something behind at home.
This year, the duo continues on their collaboration and rolls out four new swimming trunks (Cut shorter and in a more pulled together mid-thigh length, the flappy, baggy ones are better left for college and high school boys) for the guests of the pool.
Aside from swimming trunks the new Standard & Quiksilver collaborative collection also includes a pair of Wayfarer shades and suncare products from Shishedo.
You can check out the collection in this very slick surfy / skate culture short film created by film maker Cheryl Dunn.
The vending machines are currently located at The Standard Hollywood, The Standard Downtown, The Standard New York, The Standard Spa, Miami Beach.
Think we might be having a chat with Quiksilver to see if we can get one down at Boscombe Beach !!
