Billabong Bob Marley Surfwear Collection

Collaboration seems to be the name of the game at the moment. We have seen the major surf brands go this route before with Sony signing a deal with Billabong to create the Sony VAIO W Billabong Netbook – and more recently they teamed up with the band Green Day to release the Billabong Green Day Mass Hysteria Boardshort .

One World, One Love

Well, Billabong have done it again. This time they have announced an exclusive deal with Marley & Co to present The Billabong X Bob Marley Collection.

Ziggy Marley, son of the late Bob Marley was excited with the news:-

I love it! The collection is cool and conscious,” as it takes into consideration the environmental sensitivities that have been used in this collection.

“Hanging on the beach after a surf, listening to Reggae is part of the surfing culture no matter where you are in the world,” said Graham Stapelberg, VP of Marketing at Billabong USA.

“Bob Marley’s music is timeless – and a natural fit for Billabong.”

His songs fuse social awareness, irresistible reggae beat and cultural relevance into a celebration of life embraced universally.

Billabong is committed to the development of earth-friendly, innovative products that adhere to the Marley family’s core values: Equality, authenticity, and sustainability. Or as Bob might put it: “Make way for the positive day.”

The Billabong X Bob Marley Collection

The Bob Marley Surf Collection consists of boardshorts, tee shirts, tank tops, and selected accessories, the line reflects the energy, passion and fun that infused Marley’s life.

The whole collection is made using premium recycled and organic materials, supporting environmentally safe products. This means less pollution, with superior quality, function and performance. The collection will be marketed in store, online and print.

The collection will be available Feburary 1st, 2011.

Taj Burrow

We didn’t think it would be long before Billabong released a signature clothing collection with the “main man” Taj Burrow!

We have had a sneaky peak and the Taj Burrow Billabong Collection looks pretty awesome.

With a range of T’s, jackets and jeans this little collection should keep you going for at least a whole week of partying and even a visit to see grandma at the weekend

Taj had pretty strict views when he signed off the collection:-

“When we were approving the pieces, I would think: Could I put this on at 6:30 am and still be happy wearing it at midnight? … If the answer was yes, they’re all in here.”

Green Day Mass Hysteria Boardshorts

Billabong and Green Day have been working on a Design Coop for the release of a special limited edition, The Green Day Mass Hysteria Boardshort for 2010.

Surfing and Rock Music have gone hand in hand since day one and the cooperation with rock bands and musicians have been raised to an art at Billabong.

Previous collaborations have inlcuded Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters, Donavon Frankenreiter or more recently with Metallica.

Like with the other bands, the connection with Billabong is strong with Green Day not only because the band has been popular in surf films soundtracks over years but also because of Green Day involvement in the boardshort development.

“We enjoy working on creative projects and this coop has been a lot of fun,”

says Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day.

A grey and black color palette of bold plaid with Green Day’s  signature logo overlaid fit the image of the band perfectly, tying the rock & roll attitude championed by Green Day and the loose functional fashion of the surf culture.

While the Mass Hysteria boardshort is yet worn by team riders from Billabong across Europe, this Green Day limited edition will get extra buzz amongst the Green Day fanbase and exclusiveness seekers as Billabong is about to promote the coop massively online while the band will be touring in Europe all month of June (see below for tour dates) .

Simon Hipwood Billabong XXL

Well the nominees have just been announced for the 2009 Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards and some of the photos and footage are absolutely stunning.

Regarded as the Oscars of surfing, the Billabong XXL Awards recognise the athletes who ride the biggest and best waves over the last year everywhere in the world, based on the photographic evidence. The ninth-annual event hands out over $130,000 in cash prizes in an array of categories including the Ride of the Year, the XXL Biggest Wave, Monster Paddle and Monster Tube.
