Rip Curl Stomp Mens Summer Wetsuit 2010

The guys at the Wetsuit Centre have been working hard to get the latest Mens Summer Wetsuits photographed, video reviewed and up on to the website in time for the new season. And what a season it looks set to be !!! All of the major wetsuit brands are bringing out new wetsuits and you won’t be surprised to hear that the technology is getting even better.

First out of the blocks is the new Rip Curl Stomp 3/2 Mens Summer Wetsuit 2010 - we reviewed the Rip Curl Stomp 3/2 Mens Summer Wetsuit back in 2009 and even then the suit was punching well above its weight - being compared with wetsuit almost twice the price.

Rip Curl Stomp 2010

For 2010, Rip Curl have updated the suit with some minor changes. The 3/2 summer wetsuit has 3mm on the core area of the suit and 2mm on the arms where you don’t need as much warmth but need the flexibility.

The Rip Curl Stomp is all about value, it is an entry level suit that is at the cheaper end of the market but that doesn’t mean there is a compromise on quality and performance.

You certainly get a lot of wetsuit for your money - particularly if you are shopping on a budget, which why this wettie is so popular.

On the front and back of the suit you get a smoothskin panel - which minimises windchill and water penetration. All of the stitching is flat-locked so there are no needle holes going right through the neoprene - again minimising water penetration and giving a really comfortable fit.

For a wetsuit of this price you don’t get a lot of smoothskin - but the number of neoprene panels are kept to a minimum which means you get an extremely flexible suit.

The knees are fully reinforced so that minimises the wear and tear, particularly for first-time surfers.

The neoprene is not the stretchiest of Rip Curl’s material so it is never going to be as comfortable as some of their more expensive suits - but this is still a wetsuit packed with performance.

Rip Curl Stomp Features:-

• Seamless Paddle Zones

• SuperSeal Collar: Fully Adjustable Neck

• Wind Resistant Smoothskin Chest and Back Panels

• Krypto Padz: Ergonomic Knee Panel

• Flatlock stictched-breathable seams,

The current cold snap has probably put pay to a lot of surfing sessions over the last week or so - but we surfers are a hardy bunch and given a good Winter wetsuits, hood and gloves we can usually be coaxed in to the coldest of UK waters.

For many of you it will probably seem an age since you last donned a 3mm Summer Wetsuit but having a decent winter wettie can make all the difference and even make those winter surf sessions quite memorable.

With all the main wetsuit manufacturers building even more technology into their suits, this year’s crop of Winter Wetsuits are even better than ever - and we are not just saying that.

Rip Curl, have been making wetsuits for over 35 years now, so they should know something about making a decent wetsuit. For 2010 they have taken one of the classic wetsuits and re-designed it using the latest Elastomax and SlickSkin technologies.

The new black Rip Curl Dawn Patrol 5/3 Mens Winter Wetsuit 2010 is now even more flexible and offers greater warmth and comfort. And all this for under £130!

The Dawn Patrol 5/3mm Winter Wetsuit has a 5mm body and 3mm on the arms and legs, ensuring your torso remains toasty whilst giving you enough material to main flexibility around the arms and legs.

Rip Curl’s very own ultra performance neoprene, called the E3 is now lighter, warmer and stretchier than ever. It is used in the arms, back, crutch and leg gussets along with a durable high grade Ultralite neoprene for all round performance.

Rip Curl also use their new orange Fireskin lining on the inside of the chest for warmth, it wicks water away form the body while retaining body heat. The new Blue Steel Sealed Zip and Soft Seal collar is integrated for maximum water seal and surfer comfort.

The Rip Curl Dawn Patrol 5/3 suit has glued & blindstitched seams which provide maximum stretch and strength with zero water penetration. The sealed seams hold a thin layer of water against your skin which once warm works as insulation. The Blindstitching technique does not involve the material being punctured and it is combined with glue to form a watertight seam. The hydroloc collar seals the neck area preventing water flushes.

An external stash zip pocket is provided with easy access.

Boscombe Artificial Surf Reef Goes Off

Boscombe Artificial Surf Reef Goes Off

The Boscombe Artificial Surf Reef was officially opened this week with some great publicity by Bournemouth Council and also on BBC’s South Today.

There has been quite a lot of debate about whether the reef is going to produce the goods - sizeable and rideable waves for us surfers!!

Well here’s the proof that Boscombe Reef can produce the goods. We have had a steady flow of south-westerly winds this week that have helped to push the swell up and when the tide has been right we have seen some pretty decent waves.

Here is a couple of shots from this week just to whet your appetite.

Rip Curl H-Bomb Test Winner

Rip Curl H-Bomb Test Winner

The producers of the Channel Five hit TV Series, The Gadget Show approached us a little while back in order to help out with a little wetsuit test they were about to embark on - and we were only too happy to help.

The “hands-on” test was going to pitch the very latest in wetsuit technology against each other. In the blue corner was Billabong’s brand new solar-heated wetsuit - the Billabong SG5, and in the red corner the favourite - the Rip Curl H-Bomb (supplied by the Wetsuit Centre).

Once the Presenters, Gail Porter and Jason Bradbury got all togged up it was time to take on the wetsuit cold water challenge, a series of cold water tests designed to see who would stay warm the longest.

The face-off started with a ice-box challenge, with Gail wearing the Rip Curl SG5 and Jason in the H-Bomb sitting in an ice-box for a full 5 minutes. Then it was a mad dash to pick up a couple of lilos and head off down the rapids at the Nene Whitewater Centre. With thermal imaging cameras runnin alongside the intrepid twosome, it was easy to see which wetsuit was holding the heat.

You can check out the video for yourself - but just so you know ….. our Rip Curl H-Bomb romped home a worthy winner. (Ok it is three times the price of the Billabong SG5 - but it looks like the bar has been set for other winter wetsuits manufacturers to catch up).

Rip Curl 3mm F Bomb 5 Finger Glove Review

Rip Curl 3mm F Bomb 5 Finger Glove Review

Rip Curl F Bomb Glove Review

Rip Curl F Bomb Glove Review

Yes, we know that Spring finally appears to have sprung on the South Coast of the UK but we still thought it was useful adding a quick review of the Rip Curl 3mm F Bomb 5 Finger gloves.

We have been wearing these gloves for most of this Winter and can honestly say that the Rip Curl 3mm F Bomb gloves are the warmest gloves on the market. Easy to get on and so supple when you are wearing them, these wetsuit gloves have some great technology to keep your hands warm even in the coldest of surf.

A fireskin fiber interior wicks water away from the skin and helps maintain warmth as it builds up inside. The smooth exterior lining, internal gasket seal and liquid seam welding provides added durability and seam strength. And although we have spent quite a bit of time in the water already this year these gloves have shown no sign of wear and tear.

On the palm you have got a durable grid mesh that helps you grip the rail and actually helps getting them off when you come out of the water.

Available in Small, Medium, Large and X-Large.

The Sorted Surf Shop Test Team  give these wetusit gloves a 5 Star rating *****

Note: As a general rule, When Choosing your wetsuit gloves size, go for a glove that is the same size as your wetsuit. So for example, if you are a Large in a wetsuit, choose a Large for your wetsuit gloves.
