Quiksilver launched new Junior’s Line

Quiksilver launched new Junior’s Line

Quiksilver Junior Line

Quiksilver Junior Line

The surf brand Quiksilver is dipping into the Junior pool with a new clothing line.

Starting next Spring, Quiksilver will launch more than 100 pieces intended to complement the surf styles from the company’s existing junior girls label, Roxy, and serve styles to a more contemporary look sold under its label.

It appears that Quiksilver isn’t concerned that the line might cannibalize sales of Roxy and its young contemporary business. Although Roxy targets a 17-year-old customer, the junior collection aims to reach a 19-year-old, and the young contemporary line pursues women age 25 who have outgrown Roxy and other junior brands.

Prices are set similarly to Roxy, with the junior line offers a variety of “modern coastal classics.” Whimsical prints in subdued colors. Psychedelic screen prints of doves in brilliant hues, bi-color geometric pattern reminiscent of Moroccan landscapes and a collage of pastel-colored flowers.

There are 108 items in the line, and the majority of it is sportswear comprised of denim, shorts, dresses, wovens, fleece, and some knits.

With the ever growing opportunity in the junior market we think this is a wise move, offering young, fun, California styles for the average teenager.

Quiksilver and The Standard Summer 2010 Collection

Quiksilver & Standard Collection

Quiksilver & Standard Collection

We saw this story over at Freshness Mag - so we hope they won’t mind us piggy backing on some of their exclusive clothing news.

The Standard hotel (which really is one hell of a trendy place to stay) has teamed up with Quiksilver to install a collaborative vending machine by the hotel’s pools to help out the fellas who left something behind at home.

This year, the duo continues on their collaboration and rolls out four new swimming trunks (Cut shorter and in a more pulled together mid-thigh length, the flappy, baggy ones are better left for college and high school boys) for the guests of the pool.

Aside from swimming trunks the new Standard & Quiksilver collaborative collection also includes a pair of  Wayfarer shades and suncare products from Shishedo.

Think we might be having a chat with Quiksilver to see if we can get one down at Boscombe Beach !!

O’Neill Hammer Summer Wetsuit Review 2010

O’Neill Hammer Summer Wetsuit Review 2010

O’Neill Hammer 3/2mm Summer Wetsuit 2010

O’Neill Hammer 3/2mm Summer Wetsuit 2010

It’s been on the cards for a while but it looks like the Summer is really here this time.

With tempertures reportedly going to hit near 30 degrees this weekend you might want to think about wearing a Summer Wetsuit if your are hitting the water.

So with that in mind we asked Sean to run through the features of one of the best O’Neill Summer Wetsuits that is on the market today.

The O´ Neill Hammer 3/2mm Summer Wetsuit for 2010 is all about value, at around £80 this wettie offers fantastic value for money - but O’Neill don’t scrimp on features. Just because it is less than a ton don’t think you are getting a cheap wetsuit.

The O’Neill Hammer offers great flexibility, warmth and comfort for a bargain price!

Two things you notice with this suit is how soft and stretchy the neoprene is. This stretchiness means you get great flexibity when surfing (so you don’t tire so quickly) and you also get a great fit - the closer fitting a wetsuit is, the warmer you are going to stay.

The smoothskin panel on the chest ensures no wind gets through meaning no heat loss. Two other smoothskin panels are situated down the back right the way down to cover your kidney area. The O’Neill designers have also built their most flexible neoprene panels into areas of the suit that get the most work - the lumbar areas just below the zip and also under the arms.

Longlasting and hardwearing Dura-flex is used on the knees - so yoo stay protected paddling out. Flatlock stitching throughout the suit minimises water penetration. A simply velcro locking neck seal stops water flushing down into the suit.

A great wetsuit that is worth considering for those Summer surf sessions!

O’Neill Hammer Summer Suit Features:

  • 40% UltraFlex DS and 60% FluidFlex neoprene for great flexibility
  • Double Super Seal neck to keep water out
  • Flatloc stitched seams
  • Krypto knee pads for durability

Rip Curl Denim Jeans

Dusk to Dawn Denim

Dusk to Dawn Denim

We have seen Billabong go down the collabroation route last month when they signed a deal with Sony to create the Sony VAIO W Billabong Netbook - and what a nice piece of kit that has turned out to be. Billabong also teamed up with the band Green Day to release the Billabong Green Day Mass Hysteria Boardshort .

Not to be outdone, Rip Curl have looked outside of their design team for inspiration. Teaming up with a fresh think trio called “Threebyone” they are due to release a brand new surfers denim collection.

Collaborating over the developement has taken nearly eighteen months to come up with the new jeans collection. And the Threebyone guys are not short of cudos - having been recently appluaded for re-inventing Lee and Wrangler Jeans in Australia.

The trio is made up of Steve Little (he’s the strategist), Richard Bell (he’s the go to market guy), and Par Lundqvist (he’s the denim-freak-Swedish-designer and creative drive).

Billabong and Threebyone have released two collections, one for the ladies and one for the gents.

The re designed mens denim range from Rip Curl is now available in two styles and four colours. Two of the collection also feature a new waxed canvas look - which looks great - especially on a night out.

The Slim Jean Waxed in Black looks very nice, as does the Midnight colour-way. The Stealth, is the waxed-canvas jean whilst the Slim Blue Ice takes on more of a European look.

Whatever design you decide to pick we take our hats off to this collaboration!

Sony VAIO W Billabong Netbook

Sony VAIO W Billabong Netbook

Love surfing the web and Billabong ?

Sony Vaio W Billabong Netbook

Sony Vaio W Billabong Netbook

Well with the release of the new Sony VAIO W Billabong special edition netbook you will be able to upload all of your favourit surfing photos whilst you are on the move.

Due to hit the Australian shores soon at a price of  AUD$749, the Billabong netbook comes with a funky lime green coloured lidand blue and black main body.

It is the first product collaboration between Sony and Billabong - which maybe might set a precedent for other surfing apparel companiesas well - we have certainly seen it in the car industry!

The notebook comes with Billabong content, including images and video from a new TV series featuring a selection of Billabong’s key surfing athletes. And if your wondering, the color scheme is taken from Billabong’s 2010 Summer board short range destined for retail stores in Australia this July.

Kent Tanigaki, VAIO Marketing Manager Sony Australia, said the product collaboration with Billabong highlighted the focus by both brands on the development of relevant product for the youth market.

“The average age of notebook users is getting younger as they are increasingly used in schools and universities.” Tanigaki said.

“Teaming up with Billabong, the world’s leading action sports and lifestyle company, on this new VAIO notebook is a fantasytic way for us to create a product that really appears to a younger tech savvy audience. Like Sony, the billabong name commands huge respect all around the world and the VAIO W series Imperial Lime will connect with fans of both brands. Together we chose the Imperial Lime design for our first join product because it utilizes bold colors and a story that will resonate with Billabong’s audience.”

The specs of this netbook are pretty appealing to. It has a Intel Atom N450, which has hyperthreading and runs Windows 7 Starter. It has a huge 250GB hard drive, which is really quite insane for such a small laptop. It has an Ethernet port, 2 USB ports, and good quality built-in webcam and microphone that’s useful for Skype or even recording lectures.

Hopefully, Sony won’t keep all these goodies just for the Aussie public and we will see this laptop in the UK soon.

If you love the new Sony Billabong Laptop - what other surfing brand collaboration would you like to see?

Billabong Green Day Mass Hysteria Boardshort

Billabong Green Day Mass Hysteria Boardshort

Green Day Mass Hysteria Boardshorts

Green Day Mass Hysteria Boardshorts

Billabong and Green Day have been working on a Design Coop for the release of a special limited edition, The Green Day Mass Hysteria Boardshort for 2010.

Surfing and Rock Music have gone hand in hand since day one and the cooperation with rock bands and musicians have been raised to an art at Billabong.

Previous collaborations have inlcuded Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Foo Fighters, Donavon Frankenreiter or more recently with Metallica.

Like with the other bands, the connection with Billabong is strong with Green Day not only because the band has been popular in surf films soundtracks over years but also because of Green Day involvement in the boardshort development.

“We enjoy working on creative projects and this coop has been a lot of fun,”

says Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day.

A grey and black color palette of bold plaid with Green Day’s  signature logo overlaid fit the image of the band perfectly, tying the rock & roll attitude championed by Green Day and the loose functional fashion of the surf culture.

While the Mass Hysteria boardshort is yet worn by team riders from Billabong across Europe, this Green Day limited edition will get extra buzz amongst the Green Day fanbase and exclusiveness seekers as Billabong is about to promote the coop massively online while the band will be touring in Europe all month of June (see below for tour dates) .

Surfing and wetsuits in the 80s

Surfing and wetsuits in the 80s

80s Rip Curl Wetsuit

80s Rip Curl Wetsuit

You may not be old enough to have lived through the 80’s but you have probably heard of the  Kalvin Harris track - “Acceptible in the 80’s” !

For many of us, the 80’s were a great time - and it seemed - no matter what you wore or looked like - everything was acceptible!

The creation of MTV revolutionized fashion, the music industry and even how we watched TV. For others, it was nothing but bad hair, worse clothing and music that often had more to do with machines than talent.
The clothes worn in the 80s depicted people who were trying to find themselves. They looked for ways to express their creativity and individuality. Men wore heavy make up and grew long hair. Women wore short hair and layers of clothing. Both sexes were looking for an identity.

1980s clothing styles is on its way back and the surfing industry is having a bit of a revival too.

Here’s a taster of some of the major major 80’s surfing and wetsuit fashions.
