It all started back in 1952 when a young man named Jack O’Neill took his unstoppable passion for surfing and used it to beat Mother Nature at her own game. Credited with pioneering the world’s first neoprene wetsuit, Jack O’Neill found a remarkable way to extend his surf sessions in the surf breaks of Northern California. Using neoprene with a material back he managed to create a wetsuit that not only provided an extra layer of warmth, but was also flexible enough to meet the needs that surfers require when paddling out to the break.

While many things have changed since those humble beginnings, Jack’s passion for innovation is still at the heart of the O’Neill Corporation. And despite being one of the largest sports and water wear manufacturers in the world, O’Neill’s roots firmly lie in the boardriding culture.
