Sector 9 Longboards

Sector 9 Longboards

Sector 9 have long been synonomous with skateboarding and surf culture. Established by a group of friends 11 years ago in La Jolla, California, the Sector Nine team have taken a passion and made in into a brand with cult following.

Imagine sitting round the beach and the surf is totally flat, well these guys decided to find another way of getting their adrenaline fix. Refining existing skateboard shapes and messing about with different wheel configurations, eventually the Sector 9 Longboards dream was realised.

The longboard business has grown exponentially over the last few years and not overlooked by some of the main surfing brands. In fact Billabong acquired the brand not long ago – which isn’t a bad thing for a bunch of surfing mates who just simply wanted to have fun.

Sector 9 are famous for taking on customer feedback and building it into their products so you can be sure that you are getting a skateboard that has extensive R&D before it hits the shops.

Keen to ensure they keep up with their environmental responsibilities, Sector 9 now produce a range of boards that are extremely strong and resilient but made from 100% bamboo.

The longboard shapes from Sector 9 are designed to be extra responsive to the rider and are great for higher speed carving and taking control of tougher steeper terrain.

If you are close to Boscombe and Bournmouth and fancy trying a Sector 9 Longboard out why drop in the shop and give one a try.

Google Surf

Google Surf

We spotted a story this week over on one of our Australia cousins websites that shows what appears to be a shark getting a little too close for comfort to a local surfer.

Captured by Google Maps you can see the outline image of a shark close to the break at at North Steyne, just along from Manly Beach near Sydney, Australia.

We’ll let you decide whether you think it really is Jaws!

But you can also check out the actual shot on Google Maps.  If you zoom out you can see how close this is to the beach, at North Steyne on what looks like a busy day for the surf club.

PS – We haven’t spotted any sharks near the new Bournemouth Artificial Reef yet – but you never know. Check out the latest conditions with the Bournemouth and Boscombe Surfcams over at Sorted Surf Shop.

O’Neill Wetsuits

O’Neill Wetsuits

O’Neill Wetsuits have been around for over 50 years and it is all down to the innovative spirit of just one man…

It all started back in 1952 when a young man named Jack O’Neill took his unstoppable passion for surfing and used it to beat Mother Nature at her own game. Credited with pioneering the world’s first neoprene wetsuit, Jack O’Neill found a remarkable way to extend his surf sessions in the surf breaks of Northern California. Using neoprene with a material back he managed to create a wetsuit that not only provided an extra layer of warmth, but was also flexible enough to meet the needs that surfers require when paddling out to the break.

As word spread throughout the Santa Cruz surfing community, Jack decided to convert his garage and opened up his first surf shop. While many things have changed since those humble beginnings, Jack’s passion for innovation is still at the heart of the O’Neill Corporation. And despite being one of the largest sports and water wear manufacturers in the world, O’Neill’s roots firmly lie in the boardriding culture.

ONeill Wetsuits have come along way since 1952, you only have to look at the collection below to see some of the amazing technology that is now involved in making a wetsuit and ensuring surfers like you and me get more time on the water.

The 2009 line-up looks something like this:-
