Webber Surfboards 2009

Webber Surfboards 2009

Last year,  Webber Surfboards introduced two new features to their range of surfboards that positioned their brand at the top of the surfing world.

First they introduced the double concave and secondly the SLX technology - a means of creating a very light but extremely strong board. It is no surprise that their surfboards have been in short supply as Greg Webber makes a name for himself as top shaper.

For 2009, the Webber team have been extremely busy, making minor tweaks across the range as well as introducing a new super high performance fish shape called the Webber Mini Fish.

Greg really is one of the world’s unique sufboard shapers, not afraid to try new concepts in order to make surfing just that ittle bit more accessible and a hell of a lot more fun!

…possibly the most manouveable small wave board available!

Webber Fish 2009

The Webber Mini Fish is an unusual beast as it packs lots of volume into its curvy plan shape, making it great for paddling and gliding but also holding a lot of grip on the wave face.

Longboards, mini mals and retro fish designs can catch the small waves but they cannot ‘fit’ into the small wave faces because they are too wide and flat. You end up surfing the board and not the wave.

The Mini Fish has two deep concaves and deep raked flexing fins, all of which allows the curves of the board to be fully utilised - making it loose but without losing any grip.

The thickness of the board also adds to te glide throughout the longer smoother turns by never bogging. It just flows from one to the next.

All the boards are glassed with a 2 x 4oz and a 3 /4 length patch on the deck and 1 x 4oz bottom with a patch on the fin area. Greg gives the boards a silky smooth Pro finish and they come standard with custom-made Webber Twin fins.

Available Sizes :- 5′6″, 5′9″, 6′0″, and 6′3″

Webber Afterburner 2009

Webber Afterburner 2009

After proving itself last year and getting rave reviews, Greg Webber have tweaked the Webber Afterburner only slightly whilst maintaining the boards overall theme as a real all-rounder.

A nose to tail double concave has been added to the surfboard, extending it capacity for speed without losing any freedom of movement. Greg has applied some of his thinking behind the fish shape, increasing the nose and centre width slightly thus making the Afterburner about half way between a shortboard and a true fish.

As Greg says: “The Afterburner has a fast and free planshape with strong and drivy bottom shape. A very responsive and forgiving semi-fish for all types of beach breaks.”

In keeping with Webber’s true goal for perfection, the entire Afterburner 2009 range are glassed with a 2 x 4oz and a 3 /4 patch on the deck and 1 x 4oz bottom with a patch on the fin area. The boards come with a Pro finish and a FCS M5 Glassflex Series fins as standard.

Available Sizes :- 6′0″, 6′2″, 6′4″, 6′7″ and 6′10″

FCS - Have you changed your Fins lately?

FCS - Have you changed your Fins lately?

For some people Spring is the first time to dust off the Winter blues and get back out in the water. The holidays are here and it is easy to forget about work for a few hours and join your buddies down at the local break.

Thoughts turn to buying a new wetsuit, or a new board or maybe just upgrading (there is a credit crunch on you know!).

One of the things that quite often gets forgotten is the how important a good set of fins can make to a surfboards performance. If you are in line for a new set of fins check out the latest offerings from the FCS Fins stable - Fin Control Systems.

Their fin range is awesome, with fins for all conditions and board types:-

  • Ultra Light Epoxy - unbelievably fast and free with incredible hold and drive on the rail.
  • Performance Glass - solid performance and more from these old school hand-finished fiberglass fins that are perfectly cut and foiled by computer technology.
  • Performance Core - a favourite with the Pros and will suit anyone who likes to push their surfing to the limits.
  • Glass Flex - fast and smooth fins, that give better hold. Some come with flexible tips for a bit more forgiveness and control at high speeds.
  • Longboard Series - great allround longboard fins including the classic dolphin, fatboy and cutaway shapes
  • Composite Core - the versatile high performance RTM fin that features a new Composite Core (CC) developed for two of the most dynamic surfers in the worls; CJ and Damien Hobgood.

If you need any convincing just how good FCS fins are, you just need to check out last years podium places and see who was riding them.

Kelly Slater Signature Fins

Throughought last season Kelly Slater alternated between his two signature FCS Surfboard fins (the K2.1 and the K3) to fine tune his boards for the conditions and achieve those incredible victories.

The FCS K-3 and FCS K-2.1 feature two different side fin templates. The K-3 feature a swept back tip for added drive and hold in down the line waves and is ideal for long open faced turns. The K2.1 is a fast and lively fin ideal for high performance surfing in tighter sections and features a more compact upright design.

The O’Neill research team have been hard at work all Winter creating a neoprene that has some really special properties.
